6.8 Spc

Just picked up a 6.8 SPC, seems to be an interesting round. Anyone have any experience with it?

Edit: Just compared it to Remington's .270 Managed Recoil Load and it is almost the same. Pretty close to .243 ballistics with the .243 shooting the heavier bullets in its caliber.

Did you buy your 6.8 in an AR platform or a bolt gun and who is the manufacturer?

Im almost as picky about calibers as I am the particular firearm.
One thing I do is try to get the most common, readily available round in the particular firearm Im looking at.
Calibers overlap significantly in weight and velocities. (which is good for comparisons), but really varies in the range of bullets available.

It is in AR platform, 16 inch, SS Bull barrel, Olympic. Just the upper as I have the the 5.56 PCR from Oly.

I have found it to be interesting in its performance from what I have read and am eager to test it out. I have found that right now it is hard to get mags and/or ammo. I have ordered a bunch of stuff from Midway for it, ammo, components, etc. Went directly to the manufacturer for the mags and they were half the price that most were selling them for.

It is closer to the original .257 Roberts in performance than probably any other round I have looked at yet.

Just wanted something for fun but the round is usable on deer at ranges out to about 250 and the recoil is light enough I might get the wife to use it on deer.

You mention one advantage (for OK residents atleast) over the 5.56. your not limited to 5 round magazine capacity for deer.
Good luck.

Got to play with it today but couldn't do much for accuracy testing as the snow and lack of a decent sight/scope made it impossible. I was able to test functionality and the only problem was the magazine kept running out of rounds so I had to keep reloading.

I have a Kotonics 6.8 upper on my RRA lower. Very accurate and shooting SSA 110 grain Pro Hunters works well on deer and hogs. The best part is with the adjustable stock and light recoil my 8 year old son can shoot it very well. Hopefully we'll be using it on a So.Tx doe and hog hunt in the next week.

Hey Bruce, did you get to do the hunt?

I am jealous of you guys in Texas. I can hear those hogs calling my name but I can't get there for a few years yet.

If you are not already a member you might want to check out http://www.68forums.com

You will have to sign up to view but these guys wrote the book on the 6.8
