OK, We have all heard the hype about the next Pres. finding a way to outlaw firearms, maybe not all but some.
What do you guys think?
Is the Ar-15 really in danger? Should you own one now if you do not already?
Do you think the economy is going to get so bad in the next few years that having a firearm like that will be necessary to protect you home and loved ones from crazed, starving people breaking into homes for food and money?
I mean it all sounds like something out of a movie and I can't help but think that some people are pushing these ideas to benefit from them.
If you have looked, you already know that there is a long waiting list to order one or any parts related to them. Hand guns as well, the manufactures can't make anything fast enough to keep up with demand of many models of firearms.
I was in a local gun shop the other day and the owner said that the dealers love Obama, he is the BEST gun salesman they have had in decades! :)

Wouldn't you rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it . :p

Seriously though, They are starting to grow on me. The thing is, after looking at it all broke down, it sure does have a lot of dinky parts in there.
I was looking at a disassembled lower and thought all it takes is for one of these tiny pieces to brake and I'm up that
" One " creek.
When it comes to need, that went out the window after the first pistol, rifle, shotgun were all home.
I would think of it more of a investment that could be liquidated if I had to.

If you like to shoot I would get one just because they are fun to shoot and 223 is second cheapest ammo you can get.
My experience is with mine are very accurate, highly reliable. I'm not a bench shooter I like to shoot 3 gun competitions, there isn't a better platform.
Will the dems try and ban them my guess is yes how soon I don't know.
Good for home defense but I just don't see my self repelling boarders even in this economy. I hope this holds true.
Mountineer I have been shooting one of my AR's since the 90's the only thing that has broken is one trigger pin. These guns are designed to beable to be repaired in the field for 60 bucks you can have all the parts that will break in the lower.
The 223 is a very good round for coyotes and varmits no matter how many legs they have.
If you live in free america you can buy mags for 20 bucks or so.

Right now things are a bit crazy if you are thinking about getting an AR. I picked up a couple receivers before the election just in case something does get banned. The receivers are considered a firearm by the ATF because it is the part with the serial number on it. Later on I will pick up the parts to put it together. Hopefully they won't ban the assembly of an AR but I don't see how they will know unless they start tracking parts.
Before the election, the receivers I purchased were $105 each, now I see the same ones are going for $179 each. I can't say I blame the manufacturer for raising their prices but that's a 70% increase!
A local dealer just got in a bunch of receivers of another brand and is selling them for $139 each.
If you have a rifle, and know how to use it, then I think you are set. Pick up some ammo for it and get some practice. Hopefully you won't need it.
A couple things we have in our favor are the Heller ruling and the economy. As long as no whackos start shooting up the place then I think people will wonder why the gov would be going after a specific gun when they should be doing everything they can to reduce spending and taxes.

I picked the second option. For any tactical reason that I might need an AR, my Saiga in 7.62x39 will suffice.

I bought one before the rush to get one. I didn't get it for self defense, I just wanted one. I love the way the operate and the versatility of them. I could buy another upper and have a long range varmint gun and still have the 16 inch barrel for whatever else. Pop two pins and you've got the upper off. If you feel like you might want one, I'd go ahead and get one. Just shop around and stay away from the price gougers. I picked up 11 mags at $12 a piece while others were selling them for $20+. The deals are out there you've just got to look.

I just picked up a full lower and it cost about $60 over the 2008 catalog price. The problem was it was cheaper than anything else I found at this gun show. The others were priced higher and used. The guy I bought it from had 11 on Saturday and had sold 10 of them before I got there on Sunday. Mags are another issue I saw prices ranging from about $11 to $25 for the same mags and these were for the 5.56.
I picked up the lower to finish out a new 6.8 SPC I just got. It will move a 85 grain bullet out at over 3000 fps from a 16 inch barrel. With heavier bullets it is even good for deer, antelope, and the occassional elk. Lots of hogs are being shot with them in Texas and those areas with hogs.
