Can someone tell me more about this OLD shotgun?

One of few family heirlooms in my family is a shotgun.
Its a bolt-action 16ga with an old iron butt plate.
The stock has been burned from an old fire stove, has paint from the painting of a house generations ago, it has small bolts going through it as well as electrical tape on it to keep it together. That being said, it shoots great and we always put at least a box of shells through it each bird season.

I, or my Dad know anything about the gun itself, aside from family interaction. The only stamps on the shotgun are "RAMMO II"(I think its two "M"s) and "Germany."

We've taken it to gun shows and people we ask at them usually stare at the old piece like a dog thats just been showed a card trick.

Anyone have any guesses as to when it was made or who exactly made it?

I wish I could. The gun is in the safe back home. I dont know when Ill be home next. I might not even be going home for thanks giving.

You have a Remo, made by Remo Gewerfabrik, Gebriuder Rempt in the 1920's-1930's. They were patterned after a conversion made by Geha but with several modifications to make it safer. It is not a conversion but was indeed made to be a shotgun. The fly in the ointment is the front locking lugs not having no recesses into which to lock. This leaves the bolt locked in place by only the safety lug, which gives birth to the suspicion they are weak and unsafe. A regular poster on this board witnessed a bolt flying to the rear, striking the shooter in the head and causing immediate death. I don't know if it was Geha or a Remo but hearing of one failure from a person not given to hyperbole is enough for me. I'd put it on the wall and tell family stories about it but under no circumstances would I place my head on the stock and pull the trigger. Value? To me, it has none. I could not with a clear mind meet my Maker knowing I had sold such a gun.

I just now read it. Thats 'comforting' to know that I risk a bolt flying back and adding another hole to my head.:o

There is a bit of discussion on whether or not it has bolt lugs to keep the bolt handle from flying open on you. Its definitely an oldie.
