Oh, sure! Marching around in a wool uniform while carrying 30 pounds of gear in 90 degree weather with 95% humidity has got to be a blast! :D

I say that as a guy who plays with steam traction engines for a weekend in August... :rolleyes:

Actually it is, as long as you hydrate before and during events (water only)!! It also forces me to stay in some kind of shape. A weekend w/o email, cell phones and time constraints except for me as Sgt. Campfires at night and sleeping on the ground usually w/o tents, just blankets and ponchos. Even at the 145 Gettysburg, was drizzly and not hot but still humid, guys went down like it was 100 degrees.

I don't know about hard core but well researched. From 1968 patterns and materials and equipment used are in a binder. From wool uniforms to cotton shirts, socks, shoes, cover (hat), tinwear, we find where to buy or make the correct stuff. Uniforms and shirts are made by a couple of the wives.

We also enjoy the smaller 'Living History' events where we can talk to the public about the soldiers and the (correct) history. The trouble we have is getting young people involved (we're all getting older:eek: ), too busy with computer games and not caring about history. We figure the 50th events coming up might be it for a lot in the hobby.

This is true, you have to pick and choose and luck out.
We also do several living history events for the NPS.
Couple of our guys do WW2 couple others do WW2 German.

We had one event fighting over a sewage pond, as we approached the fenceline the Command was given "Ground rifles, draw pistols" (we didn't have any). This as the Yankess were throwing dynamite at us!! Which wasn't invented yet. :eek: That event wasn't held again......

Most CW events remind me of South Park episodes and are typically poorly planned county fairs. They're terrible around here.
