I posted this on the DTR site as well, but with the smaller number of folks here, I might actually get y'all to elaborate a bit more in your replies...

There's been much discussion about the sad state of US politics and politicians. Most of us here agree the Democrat party has a main goal of making the people dependant on the government, and many will vote for outright socialism. They can't do this with our existing Constitution and Bill of Rights, so they will attempt to get around it by judges writing legislature from the bench or just plain old ignoring the Constitution. Most of us also agree the Republican party has sold its soul to garner votes from the slightly left-leaning undecided, and can no longer call itself the party for limited government and lower spending. Many Republicans have also voted to protect the whole at the expense of certain individual liberties, again betraying their conservative claims. With these presumptions being our baseline, who do we want on the ballot for 2012? Who out there has enough experience to speak intelligently to foreign heads of state without embarrassing the American people? Who out there has an understanding of how the three tiers of government are supposed to work together, and will respect those Constitutional guidelines? Who out there will believe and enforce the Constitutional premise that all human rights are inalienable, and the sacrifice of an individual right for the greater good does no good whatsoever? Who out there will hire an economic staff that believes in true capitalist values, and will rewrite the tax code so it accurately and effectively represents all men equally? I could go on with a few more, but this message would get really lengthy when I started talking about lobbyists, immigration, English as a national language, and non-hyphenated AMERICAN pride. I’ve come up with a few options; y’all tell me who I’m missing out on.

We definitely need someone that is fiscally conservative.

Newt would be a good choice but I don't think he wants back in.

Mitt Romney was a pretty good choice but somebody did not want him elected. He at least had some business sense.

I liked Sarah Palin's spunk but not sure how she would hold up.

I always liked Ron Paul but he might be getting a little long in the tooth.

I figured I'd get a lot of Ron Paul responses. I think he's about the only person currently in Congress that hasn't sold all his values to vote along partisan lines. What worries me about Newt, and any other member of congress for that matter, is that they've sacrificed at least some of the core conservative beliefs that our country was founded on. If nothing else, they appear apologetic when voting to preserve traditional values, and I want a candidate who proudly declares (intelligently, factually, and honestly) that they voted the way they did because it's in line with the principles our nation was founded on. A problem with Ron Paul is that he's already been in the primaries, and once your name is associated with "fringe politics" it's almost impossible to gain mainstream acceptance for your platform, no matter how good it really is.

Yep, he will get my vote. He is the only Constitutionalist.

I bet Nug would draw a lot of forgotten voters out of the wood work and negate the Obamaniacs.
