Not really off topic, but I didn't know where else to put this.

I have used the unflavored gelatin mix, scrap lumber, and wet newspaper and catalogs.
What else makes a good living target analog to shoot?

the wet newpaper and catalogs are the cheapest, but I feel its too solid compared to light skinned animals to be an accurate representation?

unflavored gelatin is pretty close to ballistic gel and much cheaper.

Neighbors cattle?

JK.

Haven't gotten as elaborate with targets as you're trying, but plastic milk and or juice jugs make fun water bombs when you fill them up and put the cap on. More dramatic with a rifle over a pistol.

There are plenty of cattle around, but I would really like to examine the wound afterwards and that might get me busted.

Seems it only right to use up all the sheep first!

The wool contains the explosion too much to be entertaining, though after the fact they do look like a big, red, scary... nevermind

I watched the Tankers testing an anti tank round in the late 70s. They put dead sheep in an old Sherman tank and fired a round through it it made about a 3 inch hole on the way in and 8 inch on the way out. All that was left of the two crewman sheep was a little white fuzz and blood around the exit hole. And only half of the driver sheep was left in the cockpit.

I was Impressed. To this day I don't know what I saw fired but DANG it should have been in use if it wasn't.

Yup, that's the infamous Sabot. Watched the later version "super-sabots" punch through T-62's at about 4-5k's out and keep skipping through the desert. Looked like giant tracers.

It was pretty awesome. I thought it may be Sabot but wasnt sure and dont like to just say things I am not sure of.

Hmm Maybe that's why I am not a Politician.

Well, atleast I didn't have to take the thread using force....

Altho, T-round would make a nice human/game analog...

Yeah, but the sabot analogy might help you understand ballistics better, when chosing the type of round you need....Hah! you didn't see that one comeing...

I dont think a sabot round against composite armor reacts the same as a ballistic tip against hide and bone.
Im not so much interested in ballistics as terminal ballistics
