Hey Folks,
I am looking for a 1911 and can't find much anywere so far. I am not looking for a fancy match pistol, I want a mil type that I can put a couple hundred rounds through at a time.
Does anyone know who has some in stock, new or used?

What makes it worse in a already tight market is the California DOJ only allows certain pistols to be sold in the state. Has to meet their safety requirements which a few 1911 manufacturers refuse to certify.

Take a look at the Springfield Mil-Spec:

They have a couple of enhanced features including a polished feed ramp and throated barrel for higher reliablity.

I posted about the two Springfields that we have here:

For the price, I think they are the good solid gun. The frame and slide are forged so you have a good foundation if you want to upgrade anything. Fit and finish are definitely better than anything I have seen coming out of the Phillipines like Rock Island, etc.
My friend has a Springfield GI Champion and he really likes it.

The Springfield is a fine looking piece of work. Do you know if they are California approved?
Crap I hate living here, it's so stupid that I have to aske such a question. I am sure that thousands of people are killed by dropped guns every year:rolleyes:

Here you go! http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/
I have three 1911's, Colt MKIV Series 70 .45acp, RIA 1911A1 .38 Super and a Metro Arms American Classic II .45acp.
The Colt is a safe queen now, the RIA is the knock around truck gun and the Metro Arms is for the range/CCW. Both the RIA and Metro Arms is from the Philippines, and I have to say the workmanship is better with the Metro Arms, and better than my Colt! Only problem is about 400 Metro Arms/Firestorms are imported into the US each month. So they are hard to find. But for around $400 it's a bargain.
Interesting that the STI Spartan is based on a RIA frame and slide, and the STI 2011 and Trojan is made by Metro Arms.
Some pics of the Metro Arms American Classic II.

After much debate, I went with a Rock Island Armory 1911. It has been great so far, no issues, eats whatever it was fed, and was on 400 bucks at a local gun show. :D

How long have you had your Rock Island?
Sometimes, less expensive = less durable, sometimes.:D

Over a year now. I havent shot it that much but do have a few thousand through it. No issues what so ever.
Now the only thing that I did do was change out the hand grip to a beavertail and matching trigger. My hand is a little meaty and the standard grip was digging into the top of my hand.
