Shipmate my only suggestion is don't rile her after you arm her LOL

The XD is a good gun. I had an XD subcompact in 9mm but sold it because I like how slim my Kahr is.

Let her try some guns out to see what she likes. My wife likes 1911's a lot so I got her a Springfield EMP in 9mm. They are pricey but I was able to find a deal on a used one.

A lot of gunshops with ranges will let you rent guns to try out. Let her try the EMP, XD subcompact, Kahr P9 or the CW9 (lower priced version of the P9), M&P compact, and of course the Glock 26. Some gals like revolvers so maybe the S&W 340 or similar loaded with 38 +P ammo. Full house 357 loads kick pretty hard in the little guns so be careful if she is recoil sensitive.

I love my Glock and wouldn't get rid of it for anything. But I shot a friends Sig 9mm and thought it was a great shooting gun. So I'm kinda biased toward a Glock.

But definitely recommend letting her shoot a few guns and find the one she likes, without sacrificing reliability.

for a concealed carry, I think the XD is a little thick. I really like the PPK in .380

How strong is she? How big is she? How much does she practice? How is she going to carry the firearm?

Without having any answers to these questions it's hard to recommend anything. Here is the generic list.

BT what works for her is important what you want her to have isn't important.

Compact list. Smith&Wesson J frame revolver, CZ Rammi, Smith&Wesson M&P compact, Glock 19, maybe a 26. I would stay away from Kel Tec, and Kahr.

Full size CZ 75, Glock 19,17, S&W M&P, and J Frame revolver.

If she likes a compact say Glock 26 then it would be better for you to adapt to a Glock 19 or 17 than it would for you to get her something she isn't comfortable with but would match up with what you like. She could use your gun with no difference in training and if you had a spare mag you could stick it in her gun. This is just an example of some things to consider. If she likes the J Frame well then you tried.

Advise is worth what you pay for it.

I personally have had good success with Kel-Tecs. It's hard to beat the PF-9 for size and price in a 9mm.

My wife is small 5'5" , VERY strong , 125#, able to carry 100# of grain or 2 hay bales at a time...

she just can't cycle my XD

and as I found out sat morning...ALL XD's have VERY strong recoil springs
the 9mm and 40 cal are just as bad

she does NOT want or like revolvers,
she likes HIGH Capacity (MORE POWER)

S&W has 2 of their semi autos on sale so we will try them

If she can do the hay hauling but can't rack the slide it's a technique problem or a confidense problem.

next time you are in a gun shop ...try an XD

very strong spring...

she has been shooting for over 20 years...

she holds a high capacity cc permit in Mass...

she knows what shes doing ,
I just wanted to get her a new toy that does not have to remain loaded in order for her to be able to protect herself with it

I am a 5'1" 105lb female & just bought myself a Sig P225/P6 for CCW & OC & I just love it.If u don't have a problem buying used then it is a great gun.It is extreamly accurate, small, compact,& it is not hard to rack the slide. (which is important to me because I am terminally ill & don't have much strength in my hands) I bought the Sig because I needed something smaller than my 1911 to carry everyday & to carry conceled. It is light & also fits my hands perfectly.I looked at a lot of guns before deciding on the Sig.I have little hands & needed something that would fit them & feel good.I looked at the XD,Kahr,Tarus,& several others but this was one that fit my hands perfectly.I was able to get mine for $295.00 which was a great price. It came w/2 mags & the orginal holster. He is very pretty which to a girl is just as important as the other things.Being that it is black it will match any outfit that ur wife wears. When I CCW he is in a Fobus holster on my right hip.
I think one of the most important things when buying a gun is: What u want to do w/it, Which one feels the best in ur hands, Which one u like the best. The Sig is one that I would deffentally take a look at for her & see how she likes it.I think it is a great idea to be able to try shooting the different guns that u like & see which one u like the best.Good Luck & let us know what u go with.
