Guys,

So far, the site has grown pretty well but I'd really like to hear your ideas on how we can bring in more members. I was thinking of doing a membership drive but I have to say, it's a lot more difficult than doing one on DTR. With a truck, you can leave a paper on a windshield. However, this is a LOT different.

Any ideas?

How about flyers we can post at the local gun shop or gun club?

That's a good idea if those clubs and shops would let us do it. I need a GRAPHIC and logo for the site but just haven't had time to mess with it. Once we get that done, I think it would be great.

Jack, I assume you're looking at a membership drive that's "right priced"?
I can think of several magazines that would be a good fit. However, ads such as these may not be "right priced".
Alternatively, there are several other options.
I can list a few off the top here:
1) A printable flier to be posted at local gun/ammo shops
2) Said flier posted at local ranges
3) Said flier posted at the counter of local stores (that will allow public postings) sporting good section.
4) fliers put up at the bulletin boards at our local Cabellas and Bass Pro stores.
5) fliers put up at local butchers shops (to catch the attention of local hunters).
6) fliers put up at local ATV and boating stores (Again, to attract hunters and sportsmen).
7) There's also a lot of free bulletin boards available on the web. One local to me belongs to radio station that allows anyone to post their events, activities, and/or announcements.
8) Local to me, is an inexpensive newspaper that really is nothing more than a local classified distribution. Ads in that are free if the ad is a certain size. (One or two lines).
9) Our local gun club also has "free nights" as well as "Social Nights". A lot of folks turn out for these events which usually end up being nothing more than folks sitting around talking shop. This would make a great time to hand out fliers and "talk it up"
10) Theres always word-of-mouth in various settings.
Just a few that came to mind.

I can only imagine what a group like this could do if you let them come up with a logo for you!

I have to figure out how we could do that. I would like to do something like that to bring an initial flow of traffic in, and hopefully those folks would stay afterward.

I would like to do a gun giveaway for the member who brings in the most new users, but I don't know how legal that is. If it's not, then I don't want to do it.

I just joined but would love to help. I have some friends, I know yes I have friends, that are shall we say "like minded". I will pass along the word and lets see if we can get some more folks on here.
We as gun owners and citizens need to be a community to prevent the further loss of rights. I will do my part as much as I can.
Thanks for the work on the forum.

I still think that the best way is word of mouth, Ive started my own little campaign. Ive still got lots of friends over at the Sheriffs Office and my little bro is currently working there. We just need to start talking to everyone.

I believe that to be the case as well. That is how DTR got started and eventually grew into what it did. It took time, but it worked. A few core members brought in a lot of people. Next thing you know we had thousands.

Jack,

The reason I found DTR way back in 05 was because of a simple net search.. I googled "gun forums" and found nothing in regards to this site.. I know it cost money to be on that search engine but would it be worth it?

The site was submitted and it IS in there. It's just like three pages down. I have found that the more sites you have link to you, the higher you rank. It's going to be a matter of getting other sites to link to us. for instance, putting a link in your sig on another site while posting etc. I've also been submitting emails to other sites asking them to link to us. I'll see how that goes.

I didn't know that about the link? I also only looked on the first 2 pages before I gave up my search.. I will be sure to post a link on my Facebook account as well as others I belong to.

If we have someone on here that is a Graphic Artist they could do a flyer for the site. It could be made available to site users as a PDF file that we could print out a batch and hand them out or just place them on the tables at Gun Club Raffels and other firearms related venues. Sportsmans Clubs in my area are always having some kind of raffel.

Foxy, excellent idea. I don't know a graphic artist that has time to do it right now but I will be looking around.

Ill post a link on my Facebook and myspace page and if we get a logo/flier then I can print out one and make copys to put by the door at work (anything by the door never lasts long)

On another note if I put a link to gun-forums in my sig. over on DTR would that be considered advertising? I know advertising for someone on DTR isnt allowed but would this being its a sister site?
Just want to find out for sure before I go ahead and do it...
