*got this from a school buddy back home...

If you receive this email in error I apologize.......I'm trying to get it out as quickly as possible.*

*Many of you know I work with individuals and families experiencing difficulties or problems related to Mental illness, Developmental Disabilities, and/or problems with Substance Abuse. Below is an action alert that I received from my Clinical Supervisor regarding drastic cuts in services for the population that I serve.*

* I have never sent out an email of this nature asking for support. However, If agency's like mine don't assist this population and their families no one will. There are simply no other resources that can provide the amount of assistance and services that we provide and that our consumer's need. *

*My agency alone serves thousands........yes thousands.....of people in Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln Counties. Our goal is to assist folks with Mental Illness, Developmental Disability and/or problems related to Substance Abuse to become as independent and self reliant as possible and to provide the appropriate amount of services in order to keep them healthy, safe and productive and to avoid the ER and Hospitalization if possible as well as help keep a roof over their heads (many are homeless or in danger of becoming so). *

*Thanks for your time if you made it this far. I care about the people that I work with and I fear what would happen to many if they did not have the support of agency's like mine. *

*If we as a society can not muster the compassion, empathy and funding to assist those of us most in need I don't know what kind of people we have become.*

*Many of the clients and their families that I work with literally can not and will not make it without the supports and assistance that we provide. *

*This is important. *

*Help out those in need and at most risk by taking the time to call, write or email your elected officials listed below regarding cuts in state funded and Medicaid services for MH, DD, and SA services.*

*Thanks,*

*Attention all supervisors: The House HHS Subcommittee has proposed SERIOUS budget cuts that will have major negative impact on our consumers, families, and providers.*
*The below information needs to go out to consumers and their families as quickly as possible - before the proposal is approved by House and Senate.*
*We do not want to create a panic but an awareness and concern to prompt families to call the leadership listed below in efforts to prevent the passage of this proposal.*

**NC Providers Council Members**
**ACTION ALERT!**
Now is the time to act! Right Now is the time to pick up the phone and make telephone calls as citizens of North Carolina to save the critical mh/dd/sa services needed by tens of thousands of North Carolinians and the jobs of thousands of people across North Carolina that provide those services. Cutting services as proposed by the House HHS Subcommittee is not an option for life supporting services people require. If the proposed cuts to DHHS are approved, tens of thousands of people with developmental disabilities, addictive diseases and mental illness will be harmed and thousands of employees will lose their jobs.

It is critical that you call today the list of House Leadership at the bottom of this email.

We all need to do our part in advocating for services for the most vulnerable population and reduce budget cuts that would impact or potentially eliminate life supporting MH/DD/SA services. Please share these talking points and contact information with your staff, consumers and families in hopes that they, as citizens of North Carolina will also contact House Leadership.

Please personally contact the list of House Leadership that is below and use the following Talking Points as a reference:
**Save Lives - Save Jobs ? No cuts to state funded or Medicaid MH/DD/SA services **
* **Save Lives - The House's proposed budget to critical mh/dd/sa services will jeopardize life-supporting services and put tens of thousands of people at risk. Every dollar in cuts to Medicaid results in lose of almost four dollars in services.**
* **Save Jobs - North Carolina?s economic stability will be at risk with thousands of jobs lost across North Carolina, especially in rural parts of North Carolina where mh/dd/sas agencies are some of the largest providers in many counties. **
* **No cuts to state funded services for MH/DD/SA services and Medicaid, _even if taxes must be increased to avoid the cuts_. **

Please contact each member on the list below. It is critical that you contact the leadership that will determine the outcome of budget cuts. If one of the committee members on the list below represents your county (listed after email below), please request a meeting with them and let them know that the cuts will harm consumers of services as well as tax paying citizens through potential job losses!
