In some posts people place links to videos showing people shooting this or that and of course there are a lot of additional videos that are somewhat related. I find this over on strategypage.com a lot. You can always find videos of someone handing a novice a .50 AE or a 3.5 inch 12 guage mag and then you see them laughing at the person after they have pulled the trigger.
ON RANT: I find it disgusting to see someone take a potential new shooter out and immediately destroy their interest in the shooting sports by giving them a gun that physically hurts them with the recoil. The individual then thinks it is funny watching this poor person suffer from the pain of recoil.
I think it is a sign of a sick person that finds it is funny to cause pain to a wife, girlfriend, child, or any other new shooter by introducing them to the shooting sports with a painful experience.
This not only causes the individual pain but then can quickly turn the person against the shooting sports, so it is also done in bad taste. Off Soapbox.

Agree with you 100%. There's no reason to embarass and hurt someone who's new to the sport.
On the other hand: When it comes to the arrogant know-it-alls that learned everything about guns from Rambo, Terminator and Dirty Harry...game on! And make sure you remind them to hold that ultralight .416 Rem Mag about an inch off the shoulder so it can slow down and not kick so much.:D

You are right I had a relative that was like that. The first time I shot a 12 gauge he told me to hold it away from my shoulder.

I haven't done it to a new shooter. I have been out shooting clays with friends and drop a 3" in on them.
Get the same laugh as dropping a dummy round in on them.

I used to shoot with a prankster who'd share shells from a 5-gallon pail with everyone on the range. Nice guy, and 97 out of 100 shells worked great, but he'd get a wild hair and load a handful with blackpowder...really difficult to shoot the second clay in doubles when you're blinded by a plume of smoke!

a friend of mine did the black powder load on one of his hunting buddies years ago. said guy got the rabbit but couldnt find it for the smoke. he never would trust his reloads again.

I have no problems with "safe" pranks pulled on seasoned shooters. It is fun as stated to slip a magnum load in on a cylinder of specials or magazine of shotshells. It is also fun to be the recipient of such pranks but the idea of doing this to a new shooter is what irks me. We have anti in over 90% of the media and then when these things are done it hurts us by making someone that could have supported us just not care at the best.
