Recomendation on a Good Deer Hunting Rifle

Hey Guys. I want a good deer hunting rifle and want some suggestions. I used to have a Remington 270 and it was a good rifle, but I sold it. I found a nice Mossberg 30-06 with a Mossberg scope at Gander Mtn for $475. Does anyone have any experience with Mossberg?

Remington, Winchester, Ruger, CZ, Savage are all worth a look. I like the set trigger on the CZ and I like the Accutrigger on the Savage. I'd look for a synthetic stock and stainless steel barrel and reciever.

Only mossberg I have used in Maverick 88.

I have a Mossberg ATR in 30-06. Good rifle at a good price. Bought it several years ago as a knock around truck/ATV gun and mounted a 3x12 scope.

I really like the Tikka rifles, especially the older model 595 and 695. Basically they're Sako's entry-level guns, and they incorporate a lot of the features from the more expensive models. I haven't handled the newer Tikka T-3 all that much, but the biggest difference appears to be stock design and a larger ejection port. You can often find the 595/695 on Gunbroker or Gunsamerica for under $500.

You didn't really say what the intended use was for or the price range you are looking at which would impact the suggestion.

If you liked your old Rem, you can get some pretty nice rifle combos from Cabelas in Rem 700 with scope, syn stock and stainless hardware for a very nice price. You can pick your caliber... My son has one in 270 and is very happy with it.

My favorite rifle to date is my Savage, in 7mmMag. Great gun, at a good price. Still using the fairly cheap scope it came with. It does have some kick though. You certainly cant go wrong with a trusty 30-06. Find one that feels comfortable, would probably be your best bet.

If you want to think outside the box a little bit you could get an AR10 in 308 or an AR15 in 6.8spc. With an AR15 chassis you could do a quick change and you could have a 223 for varmits both 2 and 4 legged, or 9mm for just dinking around. It's a very versitile platform.

I ended up buying a Remington Model 770. From what I read, it is the upgraded version of the Model 710 that Remington had problems with. Anyhow, it is a bolt action 30-06 w/ stainless steel barrell and a Bushnell scope on it for $339. I sighted it in this weekend. Kicks like a mule with the short barrel, but for the money, I love it so far.

congratulations Remmys are good rifles

You can probably have a brake added to help on the recoil.
Maybe cut the stock down and add a thicker pad.

Honestly, my 7mm Rem Mag isn't that bad once you get it off the bench.

you wont notice the kick when your taking down monsters haha congrats on a sweet rifle...im browsing around now for one :)
