Anyone else have this problem ? Mine does it all the time. Shell doesn't chamber, therefore the bolt get stuck in the open position. It's done that since day one.

sorry, Mossberg owner here never had a problem out it it other than a sore shoulder.
is this every shot?
how is it jamming? does the bolt not come back far enough? does the elevator not come up high enough? is the shell interupt not coming back to stop the second shot?

It is not every shot. Only when there's a slow, fat quail flying by.:)
I believe the problem is the elevator does not come up high enough. Is this common ? Fixable ?
Thanks in advance.

Wonder if you're short-shucking when you se a bird. I have 2 870's and have shot quite a few service guns and only had problems if excited and started short-shucking.

could be short cycling.

If you aren't short stroking the action you could have a misadjusted feed ramp causing the round to come in too high or too low causing the jam. You can simply bend the feed ramp a bit one way or the other ( as taught in the Remington Artmorer's course) to remedy that issue or in the case of a short stroke, Run it like you mean it. Kinda hard to break an 870....
Also if you don't already have a Flexi-tab feed ramp the retro-fit kit is easy to install and pretty cheap.
