Check this thing out.

I'm thinking this might be a good little backup to carry. Tiny little guy, you could put it just about anywhere.

Looks pretty good, and sounds like a well made firearm.

Just what you'd need for summertime "Speedo" season. :D

They sure are making them compact nowadays ain't they?

the lock is bigger (and heavier) than the pistol

Yep they sure are. I had been looking at the Glock 30 SF but this is a lot smaller. I like the idea of being able to carry it just about anywhere no matter what kind of clothing I'm wearing. Would be great in uniform on the leg or under the arm.

I've seen a couple of recalls on this pistol. Does anyone know if they've gotten that taken care of?

That's almost an exact copy of the Kel-Tec P-3AT. Gun Tests magazine tested them head to head and liked the Kel-Tec better. I've had a 1st gen P3AT for about 3 years. I like its power/size ratio, and it's even lighter than my scandium J-frame. I pocket carry the P-3AT (in a DeSantis Nemesis) when I can't conceal anything bigger.

I looked at one a few months back, but was unable to buy since it is not on the CA gun list.

I have a friend from another state who just bought one a few weeks ago and does not like it:rolleyes:, so she is selling it to me used but never fired.:D

There is always a way I guess.

The only issue I have with it is the caliber, 380 is just too light.

9mm is the lightest I will go and there are some pretty small guns out there chambered for it.

I'm not big on it being a .380 either but in certain circumstances, it would be better than nothing. I'm looking at other options now after reading about the Ruger though

Take a look at the Kahr PM9 or CW9.

If dead set on a .380 the Walther PPK or PPKS is hard to beat.

Or maybe a Makarov? A bit more power than a 380.(9x18) small and compact, ultra reliable but a bit heavy and a bit heavier recoil than most 9mm's due to the straight blow back design. Joe

My Kel-Tec P3AT is smaller than the Kahr, 1/3 the price of the Walther, and half the weight of the Makarov. It's not a bullseye gun by any stretch of the imagination, but for a point/shoot 10-foot defense of life, it works when I can't carry anything bigger.

I have put this little hand gun through some tough tests. Ran through malfunction drills, stove pipe, double feed, and reloading drills shot 150 rounds through it. Not one single malfunction through it all.. This is my CC gun, it goes with me everywhere. Its not a fun shooting gun, lots of kick and long trigger pull but it will do in an emergency.. also a good back up gun for LEO's

I want a good, solid, SMALL weapon I can holster to my ankle for a backup. Of course given the money situation right now, it might be a while before I purchase one.

The recall was an easy process, they had the gun back in a week, no out of pocket expense and with a hat and extra magazine for your trouble.

I tried to buy one two months ago, but my dealer said that there is a long back-log of orders and he is having trouble getting them from his supplier.

I picked up a LCP last month for $235 from a college student who needed the money. Already had been sent back and had the recall done. The way to tell is if the serial number starts with 370 then you have to look at the flatspot right behind where the hammer (it's hammerless so bare with me but the same spot) and it will have a diamond stamped in it. That's the indication that the recall has been done. If the serial number starts with 371 then no need for work to be done. You can also type the serial number in on the Ruger web site and they will be able to show you the history of the recall in a couple seconds. I did this with mine to try it out and it worked. It also has the diamond stamped on it. If someone needs a pic of what/where to look at just let me know and I'll take one of mine.

That being said, I really like the LCP. It is much more reliable than the Keltec but it is an exact copy. Mine fits in my front shirt pocket and you can't even tell it's there. It also works great in a pocket holster in the front of your pants or on your ankle. You can also buy 10 round mags with the extensions for it instead of the factory 6 rounders but then that kind of defeats the purpose.

There's a rumor going around that 380ACP ammo is nearly impossible to buy. Any truth to this?

It's flying off the shelves. I haven't been able to find it for a while now. 9mm is easier to find and way cheaper too. .40 SW and .380 are about the same price currently only I can find .40 as easy as 9mm.

What data do you have to substantiate that comment? I have both and they both function verywell. With the Keltec you don't need to worry about warranty/recall issues.

Jack, if you want to shoot my Keltec let me know, my brother has the Ruger right know. Although I must confess, they are nearly identical.

In short....YES!!!!!

9mm, .40, .45, and pretty much anything outside of 12 gauge bird shot is pretty much in the same condition.

I just bought a Ruger LCP at the gun show yesterday. I've been on the list for a Kel Tec 380 for about a month, and haven't moved up the list at all because the store just hasn't gotten any in. I like my Sig P6, but it's like trying to conceal a cinder block for CCW....lol. After reading all the good things about the little Ruger, I'm glad I got it.:D
