I was at a outdoor shooting event a couple weeks ago. Everybody had out their best and most expensive guns. I was just sitting back shooting water bottles with my .17. after a while i got bored so i went back to my truck and got out my M44. I started shooting and after about 5 shots i had just about everybody around me wondering what in the heck i was shooting because it is so LOUD. I explained and everybody was just amazed at it from the looks of it (from 1946) and the swing out bayonet. People couldn't believe it shoots a 7.62X54R russian. Everybody asked how much for one and i told them about $100 bucks. They were astonished. At the end of the day i would say more people were impressed with a $150 rifle than the $1000 + rifles.

If nobody here has shot a 91/30 or M44 you owe it to yourself to try one. I am hooked on these, they are so fun to shoot !

They say to get the best accuracy, shoot with the bayonet extended as it was intended. Give it a try and get back with us. I haven't gotten around to picking one up yet, but looks like they're on sale again.

you are right. If i shoot with the bayonet folded in i have to aim to the left just a hair, no big deal. If i extend it it is dead on. That is only with the M44's though. the 91/30's which just look like a longer version of the m44 come with a detachable bayonet. which seem to shoot straight with or without the bayonet on. the 91/30's are also alot easier to find, fleetfarm sells them for 100 bucks plus you can go to CTD.com and get 440 rounds of surplus ammo for less than a 100 bucks.
I hope i get a deer with one of my when deer hunting comes around. :D

I picked up a 1942 91/30 numbers matching Mosin back in june. took it out last weekend and had a great time shooting it! I love the Mosin Nagant and the 7.62x54R, makes for a good time at the range!

What kind of rounds are you using ? I was thinking about getting the 440 rds. off of cheaper than dirt but they are corrosive and i dont feel like cleaning the gun every time i shoot it. Lately i have been using the brown bear 174gr. and silver bear 203gr. gonna try to bag a deer this year with it :D

I use the milsurp ammo in the 440 spam cans. I clean after every visit to the range and when I clean after using corosive ammo I wash the bore down with windex to neutralize the corosiveness. The milsurp ammo I have I think is 1970's Russian ammo. Another good website to by from is aimsurplus.com, i personally haven't bought from there but a friend buys all his surplus 7.62x39 there and never had a problem with them.
