I carry a P229 for work and have yet to find a good concealed carry setup for it. The best I've had so far is what I sewed into a holster from a velcro type back brace thing. It fits well and holds the weapon under my right arm against my body. I like it, but I don't feel like the trigger is protected well enough, and the brace sometimes slides down on my body. Not enough to be seen, but enough to be annoying.

Now I know the 229 is a large weapon, but has anyone out there got some suggestions on how I might be able to come up with a better setup?

I have tried shoulder, inside belt, outside belt, no holster in-front-of- pants, man "purse" and about as many homemade variants as I could come up with.

For my Sig 226 or SW 686 the most comfortable has always been to keep it on my right hip in a belt held level 1 thumb break holster. The 686 is a good back-up as well.

I like AKER out of San Diego for off duty or concealment. The bodyguard 137, hideout 150 and flatsider 168 work for me. I'm 5'10" and feel they are discreet enough as long as I wear a belt and untuck my shirt.

I agree. With the size and weight of the P229, it's just gonna have to be in a holster that's made for it. Some kind of proper holster concealed under an un-tucked shirt is about the best I can think of. It is what it is, - a combat pistol.

That's why I hate summer. Probably the safest/most comfortable way I've found with my 226 has been tucked in the waste in the front of the jeans with a sweatshirt flipped over the grip. On the side or under arm always gets looks with the grip sticking up, even if covered all the way. Lower back sucks in the car, but I'll move it there if I'm gonna be on my feet or in the store awhile.

I carry a Ruger P91DC on a regular basis. Also a large one to conceal. Best I have found is small of the back inside the pants in an Uncle Mike's open top holster. Winter time it's easy cause I'm always wearing a jacket. Summer time I wear a t-shirt that is a size larger than I need and leave it untucked. I've been doing it that way long enough now I don't even notice it even when sitting in a car.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I appreciate it. Looks like for now the one I'm using is my best bet.

I carry a P220 in a beltslide pancake holster with the gun just behind the crest of my right hip. I can usually cover it with just an untucked T-shirt if it's not windy, but an unbuttoned shirt works wonders for breaking up the grip outline without really impacting access.
