Well, I found out not too long ago that the NC Highway Patrol is looking at the Smith & Wesson M&P .357 Sig as a possible replacement for our Sig P229's. I got a chance to look at this gun the other day and I really like it. I haven't shot it yet, but it's a little bit lighter than the Sig and I like the feel of the trigger better. I have a feeling that I will be more accurate with this pistol. In addition, the magazine can hold 15+1 so that is a good thing compared to 12+1.

Anyone here have experience with this weapon by chance? I'm curious to hear some feedback on it.

My sister in law is in the SS and she shoots one. She seems to like it but it lacks a bit of "rearend" if you know what I mean!!

I'll have to wait and see what it's like when I shoot it. I'm going to get the opportunity next week and I'm looking forward to it. I also have to qualify on the P229 and P245.

I have shot the M&P compact in 9mm and the fullsize .45ACP. The M&P compact that I shot was amazingly accurate for it's size.

I liked them both but am still not a big fan of the triggers. They are not terrible but I am spoiled by the 1911 that I carry. I handled an M&P the other day that had a thumb safety but still had the same heavy trigger.

If they put a good trigger along with the thumb safety, a 4" barrel, into a 9mm system, then they would have a customer.

I have to qualify on firearms next week and I'm hoping I'll get the chance to actually shoot this thing. I don't know if I will or not but we'll see. If so, I will report back. I'm thinking I can get a few pictures, too.

I'll agree with you on that. We never hear news about his legal proceedings down here, the piece of trash. I was at Shawn's funeral last year, and it was not fun. I'm sure you are well aware of what Michaela has been through. Saw her a few weeks ago at a LEO benefit in my county. She sure is strong, and I don't know how she does it. The thing is, she shouldn't have to deal with all of that. She's been through more in one year than 99% of the people in this world go through in a lifetime, yet she somehow keeps a smile on her face. amazing to me.

She is just an amazing lady, that's for sure. She has started the Ty Blanton Foundation, in honor of the baby. It's to help mothers of premie babies. Every now and then, we will hear something on the local news about Wong. Last I heard, his trial is supposedly sometime in 2010. I know what you mean about the funeral:( I had to go to the funeral of my friend Gary Davis, in Detroit a few years ago. He was an officer in a township in the Detroit area, and was killed by a drunk driver while on duty. Good luck with qualifying, and thanks for all that you guys do.

I work in Johnston County which is about 1.5 hours away from Jacksonville. My county is where I95 and I40 meet. Lots of fun.

I can't wait to find out what happens at trial. My biggest fear is that this guy will get off on some technicality. I hope he'll get the death penalty. I don't remember if shawn had a camera in his car or not. I believe he did.

LASD signed off on the M&P9 and 45 but put the breaks on because a bunch of 9's had "issues".

I qualified on the Sig but not the new pistol. I don't know when we'll be getting them. Yeah, it's a LOT more than the CCW quals.

I just saw this on another forum so I guess it's official ;)

I recently picked up a slightly used M&P40 and I like it so far. It is taking me some time to adjust to the trigger. Six shot groups:

When I took the gun down it looks like the way the barrel locks up is very similar to a Sig and we all know how well Sigs shoot.

Yep, and I can't wait to get mine. I don't think I'll be getting it until the next in service. Not really sure. However, I am going to buy my P229. I love this pistol.
