Anyone have a good opinion on the Tarus Judge 410/45long colt wheel gun? Looks like a good personal defense gun to me.

It will be on the large side. Even though it is only a 5 shot it does have a cylinder that is almost 3 inches long plus the barrel (2 to 6 inches more) plus the length of the revolver's action.
Here is a link to a test http://www.theboxotruth.com/docs/bot41.htm
Please keep in mind this is one person's opinion on the review.
One issue I have with his tests is the results from people who have used a 12 guage with birdshot. At 15 to 20 feet it is devastating at 20 yards it is losing steam but that is what you want for HD. I have heard good stuff on birdshot from a 12 gauge from an instructor for the shotgun course at GunSite.

Just to clear things up,.....the "Judge" chambers a .410 shotgun shell, not a 12 ga. ;)

I have two, the 2.5" chamber and the 3" chamber, they are great with buck shot or slugs, anthing past ten feet is a waste with "normal" shot.

I think the Judge would make an excellent camping type gun, due to the 410's effectiveness on rattle snakes. As a general personal defense gun, though, I think there are better options as far as capacity vs weight and width go.

I think that it would make a good defense gun from inside a car... shoot someone from 9 inches with bird shot in the eyes... other than that...?

Colt 45 is still a quite effective cartridge, and I wouldn't want anyone shooting 00 buck at me either, even if it is only a few pellets from .410...

Have a buddy who lives in snake country......he prefers his .45 loaded with shot......he has two Judges and he offered me one just to rid of them. He says the snake shot in the .45 papers and preforms much tighter.

zoning prohibits my use of anything other than shotguns on my property. there are are rattlesnakes in the area, is it effective for that? i am not familiar with .45 with shot annabelle, excuse my ignorance but would that be used in a regular .45 pistol?

^^^^^^ I've never bought it in .45 long, but I have used in .45 ACP......great on snakes.....CCI makes it.....comes in 10 round packs for about $15.00.
