I'm not sure I want to carry my Glock 22 all of the time especially in Summer months.

Love my XD-40sc. I used to carry a Ruger P91DC. Big difference.

Kahr Arms PM40 or MK40 is about as small as you're gonna get in a .40.

XD40SC is my concealed carry of choice. IWB will conceal under most any untucked shirt

Thin is IN!

Double-Stack magazines allow increased capacity, but are tougher to conceal.
Many folks carry them daily though.

The 1911 is a narrow single stack platform that virtually disappears under most anything.
Especially in a 3" or 4 1/2" barrel config.

The REAL test is to carry whatever you feel is 100% reliable, and can consistantly hit with.

best concealed carry outside of a derringer is prolly a smith air weight.

Get the largest caliber, smallest size, most reliable gun you can comfortably and accurately shoot. I know...that doesn't tell you anything.
Honestly, it's a subjective issue, and everyone's needs are different. Living in Alaska, I can conceal pretty much anything smaller than a Desert Eagle year-round. When I lived in Colorado Springs, sometimes my J-frame was a bit difficult to hide. I've found my P3AT to be reliable and concealable for pretty much anything I wear, including clipped to the waistband of my swimming trunks. While I'm not a fan of the .380 for stopping power, it's a lot better than your fingernails, and the only rule of a gunfight is to have a gun. If you're serious about carrying all the time, you'll find tweaks to your wardrobe that permit it. Little things like buying jeans with a bigger waist to accommodate an IWB holster, or always wearing an untucked, un-buttoned shirt over a T-shirt to cover a small belt-slide holster. And make sure you get at least one good belt, preferably something with a wire in it for stiffness. Nothing shouts "CONCEALED WEAPON" like a person constantly adjusting something on their belt or hitching up their britches every couple minutes.

Don't skimp on the holster. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people save for a high-quality firearm and then carry it in an unfitted, $5 "one-size-fits-all" holster (good example...$2300 Les Baer 1911 in an Uncle Mike's IWB clip-on sleeve).

It's your life you're talking about. If you're serious about protecting it with any tool, ensure all the components are high quality, reliable, durable and designed to work together.

Didn't mean to rant...

I got alot of milage out of an Uncle mikes. I used it inside the waistband. But I definatley understand your point. I'm looking for a better holster for my XD right now.

I was considering the single stack 45 Glock. Friend has one and it is narrow enough I think to be able to hide it well. I'm a fairly good size guy so I can pretty much hide anything but the 22 is a little over bearing sometimes.

Thanks for the opinions. Might be time for a new toy.:D

the best one is the one that goes bang every time you pull the trigger.

My personal bodyguard is a Taurus Millenium Pro in .45ACP. Small enough to fit in a pocket and big enough to get the job done.

I have a Kahr E9 and P40. The P40 is very snappy. Both guns are nice and slim, so slim that I usually forget that they are there.

I normally carry a 1911 but if I have to go small then I get the P40.

That's a good point.
I'm looking for a good IWB fitted holster for my S&W 4516-2.
Anybody have a suggestion?

Ok, opinions are like................. You know the rest of the phrase. IMHO the largest bore you are comfortable with and is consealable. I carry a Colt Defender with eight rounds of .45 ACP, 230 grain hollow points. I don't believe in double tapping.:D

I just received an IWB Crossbreed holster.....very reasonable and very comfortable for a H & K USP compact in .40 S & W. I am going to order one for a 1911.

My wife carries her Dan Wesson CBOB in a Crossbreed Supertuck and loves it. She said that their customer service is excellent.

I tried it once and found it to be quite comfortable for an IWB design.

Nice guns!!!!!!

Yes they are. The new Valors are really nice but a lot more money than I paid for hers. They upgraded some of the parts on the Valors which I am glad because they had a couple quality issues on the older models.

The gun has been very reliable for her which gives me peace of mind.

I need some advice before I go let some dealer talk me into something that won't work. I bought my wife a pink Taurus TCP .380 a couple of months ago but she won't shoot it because it has too much recoil. She underwent 17mths of chemo and now has little to no strength and can barely rack the slide on the Taurus. We tried every gun at Academy and she couldn't even pull the trigger on half of the revolvers in the case. I'm almost to the point of buying her a .22mag but want something that is small, has low recoil and packs a punch...and is woman friendly. Any suggestions?

I just purchased a Walther PK380 and absolutely love it.. Much lighter and easier to carry than my XD. Though not as much knock down as the 40, I bet the one on the receiving end wont be alive to tell the difference.

that is a tall order to fill.
honestly tho, a .22Mag with a hard cast lead bullet is probably the best option. .380 is marginal as is, anything less is going to be a belly gun, but it may be enough to atleast get someone off her and they can ID the suspect when he's in the hospital for a gut full of lead.

You may have to do some driving, but there ARE dealers out there that have ranges and allow testfiring before purchase. Have you only checked single action pistols? Please don't feel I'm being unsympathetic to her condition, but there is some responsibility to carrying. It might be prudent to wait til she gets some more strengthening before getting a pistol that won't do the job and possibly make things worse.

My Mom is 80......we tried several of my weapons for easy of trigger pull for her....we settled on a S&W 686. The revolver worked well for her. I also have much reduced strength since my stroke.......I carry one in the tube with the safety on, the hammer down and in and in the double action mode.......the pistol reverts to single action after the first shot.......I don't have to worry about racking the pistol.

Exactly! And even then, I at least tell the readers I pulled it from another forum so folks don't think it's mine, but rather something I agree with or think is relevant to the discussion at hand...

My first recommendation when someone asks my opinion of the best concealed carry is “never carry anything smaller than a 9mil +P”
Having said that, my personal favorite is any small frame single stack 45acp loaded with hollow point ammo.

Seeing how I don't have much of a collection ( 2 guns ) I carry my Taurus 617 snub 7 shots of pure hell fire .357. I carry in a cheap $13 holster because I can't afford a better one just yet same as the belt goes too. When I can afford it I will get me a regular gun belt. But I am happy with my Taurus she is a great shooter and not hard to carry IWb appendix .Don't believe all the Taurus bashing you see . Great gun got it used for $270 OTD. Only issues I have had were ammo related. She does not like Monarch .357 that I got from Academy Sports. She did well with the .38sp from Monarch . I keep her loaded with 158gr JHP.

I carried my old faithful Colt 1911 for quite a few years. I just recently got a XDM 45 ACP compact 3.8, just LOVE it !!! So nice to shoot, nice to carry as well. Here in New Mexico we can open carry, so I really don't care much about concealment. When I go into town, stores, I do conceal, it conceals nicely.

Is this the one you're talking about? If so, how many will it hold in a magazine?

I like my S&W M&P 9c. It is small enough to carry and yet has a 12+ 1 ammo capacity. If I had to go smaller it would be a Ruger LC9 which of course has you giving up mag capacity ( 7+1) but is much flatter for ease of concealment. Oh yeah, the LC9 trigger is kind of quirky until you get used to it. I would personally install the trigger kit from Galloway Precision to make the trigger pull something less than a half mile 😁. Both are accurate with the S&W having a little edge in handling recoil.
