A friend asked me to go thru his Grandad's old model 94. I jumped at the chance
It is a fine Model 94 rough on the outside with a split in the buttstock and a lot of scratches and rust on the exterior. I figured I was in for some work, but was delighted to see the internals were pristine, including the bore.
This was a working rifle in .32 Win Special. His grandad was from Eastern Washington and this was his deer rifle since he bought it new right after WW2. After breaking it down I noticed how clean and lubed the internals were and was impressed. This was owned by a rifleman and vet so I shouldn't be surprised.
After repairing a broken stock and replacing a broken band screw this gun is pretty much ready for the field again. I have a soft spot in my heart for the .32 WinSpec because an old Marlin of the same era was willed to me by a great man back in the early 80's when I was still a teenager. RIP Frank Linane.
The new Hornady Leverevolution Ammo has got to be a Godsend. Both rifles shoot great and I was proud to have handled the 94 and have it in my care. If these weapons could talk I would be all ears for the rest of my life.
Just a quick story for whomever is interested. I hope I pass on this passion for old firearms to my young sons.
To your health, Kurt
