Please bear with me I'm new to this site and I have tried to read the threads about the XD's and XDM's but I still have a couple of questions. Is there a huge difference in the workmanship and quality between the XD and the XDM? I read on one of the threads someone was talking about a XDM .45. It is my understanding that the XDM does not come in .45 cal yet??? I currently carry a .45 Colt Commander and have carried it for more years than I care to remember however the XDM's seem to interest me.
Thanks,
Jay

workmanship and quality... I dont have an XDm, but I would say no. they are both produced in the same factory in Croatia.
I dont see anything on the-m-factor.com about the pistol being available in .45. just 9mm and .40.
I dont know all the details on the XDm other than you dont have to dry fire to field strip the pistol.
Some of the features I really like about my SC.
1. points like a 1911.
2. Grip safety and trigger safety (along with a drop safety that wont let the firing pin pass the bolt face without the trigger being pulled).
3. Striker status and Loaded Chamber Indicators.
4. Its not a block.
The only thing I dont particularly like is its a bit thick to fit in my pants with me...

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm going to a gun shop on Saturday and hopefully they will have a .40 so I can get an idea of how it fits my hand. I assume the 40 and the 45 would be about the same size. I'm hoping that the XDM in the .45 will come out sometime this spring or summer.

remember, the XDm has interchangable backstraps so if it doesn't feel quite right, see if you can try a different strap.
The xd comes in 3, 4, and 5" barrels.
The xdm only has 4.5 at the moment.
The xdm 9mm holds 20 rnds. The xd holds 17.
As far as quality goes, I would say no difference. The xd line is a very good pistol. You cant go wrong with either one.
I have an xd9 service (4") and tactical (5") with a subcompact on the way. I like them alot. For me they work well.
