I've about given up waiting for a XDM .45 so I have started to think about a Kimber .45 Have seen some pictures and heard some people talk about them but the question is are they realllllly worth the price you have to pay. They seem to be about twice what other well know brands are selling for-------Looking for opinions of Kimber owners----

I just shot a basic Kimber last week. My friend payed $795 plus shipping etc...
I really liked the gun, it shoots really sweet and accurate. But, it miss-fed first round of the second magazine I shot. The owner had put about 50 rounds through it before me. I think the gun is very tightly machined, which is why it is so accurate, but I think it this makes it picky about the ammo.
I really like the look of the XD as well. I found a couple of them on Gunsamerica.com, give it look.

Kimbers are really nice guns, if you can find a Dan Wesson Razor back or Pointman get it, they really ROCK!!

I think the dollar value is better with the DW I like the Pointman 7. They have a bob'd grip commander length that's pretty sweet too.
Unless you find someone with one on their shelves they won't be back in production until the end of the year.

After a lot of looking I can't find a Kimber either. Most gun shops say their on back order also and not expected till spring of 2010. Not many used one around either--people are really holding on to them and the ones for sale so far are more expensive than new. I'm beginning to like my Colt Commander more and more everyday:)

I have had really good success with my Kimbers but they are both the older pre-series II models. When they changed to the series II they added an internal firing pin safety and went to an external extractor. They had so many issues with the external extractor that they have since gone back to the internal design.
The other thing I saw about that time was a drop in quality. The online forums were buzzing with all kinds of issues people were having. Lately I have not heard the issues but I believe that Kimbers are over priced for what you are getting.
Like n2 said, the Dan Wesson is a better gun, ask me how I know. ;)
