I'm not familar with the laws on the "Left Coast".

I'm a Virginia resident and our laws are MUCH different.

These guys might be able to speak on what is and what isn't permissable on your side of the US.

I too am not familiar with CA laws.

Might be worth it to hire a lawyer for an hour and discuss not only what the law says, but the case study of previous rulings.

(1) You must"be in fear of your life".
(2) Not in the back.
(3)Suspect/perp/not nice person must be armed with the equivalent of your weapon.Eg.your lead pellet dispensing device is not acceptable relative to a single edged cheese slicer
(4)Carrion must be dragged back into residence and holes must go front to back, and any traces of body fluids must be removed and rendered undetectable by Luminol.
(5) Suspect/perp/not nice person MUST NOT BE CAPABLE OF SPEECH OR ANY OTHER MEANS OF COMMUNICATION TO CONTRADICT YOUR CAREFULLY CONSTRUCTED STORY OF DEFENSIBLE ACTION!
Welcome to the late great State of California.
