Check out the Limbsaver or PACT body-worn shoulder pads. No permanent or expensive mods to the gun, yet significant recoil reduction. While the .223 doesn't have much in the way of recoil to start with, and there's really not enough gas volume for an effective brake, I think a combo of more weight and the Limbsaver would make for a very low recoil impulse.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

One other question along these lines, he has a lot of .38 Special ammo, is there an upper made that can take .38/.357 Mag ammunition?

All I know of would be .22lr uppers, 9mm, or .357 sig. As far as pistol ammo.

I haven't shot it, but 5.45x 39 might save you some recoil?

You might try these, they are LOUD but I run them on a semi M4 and on 1 of my M16 uppers. They do a great job in semi and full auto.

Just bought one...

I'm just getting into shooting and bought my first AR from a dealer at a gun show. (found the show at gunshowsnow.com). I think it is awesome and from research, it seems like I got a great deal. I am trying to pics so you can tell me what you think of it. Got it with scope for 1,100.

Smile Recoil reduction

I know this might seem too simple but a recoil pad might help
