C'mon Christmas!

Couldn't help it, boy needs his own Pellet Gun. My poor Benjamin from the mid 30's ( was my dads piece ) needs rebuilt again, I doubt if Benjamin even rebuilds them anymore, besides I hate to let him have it just yet.

Soooooo, I decided to get the boy his own. Sneaky devil that I am, I figured I would also be able to use it to dispatch varmits as well, so he needs a decent one.
Boy did I ever get a confusing mess started! I had no idea how many varieties are really out there, including big name comanies who seem to be going to China to have theirs made.

In the end, I ended up getting him this for Christmas.

Anybody ever shot the Gamo CFX?

Oh yea, to keep peace, his sister is getting the Gamo Lady Recon.....because it is PINK!

Oh well, at least she is showing interest in shooting now.

WOW, all I can say.

Only got to shoot it once ( grrr......Kids! ), but that thing sounds like a .22, has almost the same recoil, and hitting the branch on the ground produced a splintered mess ( was probably 1" diam.).

I can see now, either the kids gonna share or I will be forced to get one for myself.

That's impressive! My RWS48 is pretty snappy, but I don't think it's quite that loud. Kills squirrels, rabbits and prairie dogs with no fuss, but I don't think I'd take on a raccoon like I would with a 22LR.

Interesting how time moves on. I can still remember pumping my Crossman 760 10 times and then watching the BB curve through the air on it's way to the target...and we thought that was fast!

I know, I always thought my Benjamin was bad...... it shoots at roughly 525 FPS.

I started this trip wanting to buy him a RWS 48/52, because that is what used to be the gold standard ( late 80's last time I looked at them ). I still think I like the feel of the RWS better, and the Gamo trigger is kinda gritty, and the thing feels more like a pellet gun than the RWS does, but man, the performance made me forget all the other stuff.

I think the standards have skewed a bit. The older RWS and Beeman combined topline performance (for the time) with exceptional fit, finish and true hunting rifle feel. They've pretty much stayed the same, and still can't be beat for feel, fit and finish. However, if you take away the hardwood stock, adjustable match trigger and nice fit and finish to focus solely on performance, you'd end up with the current line of Gamo guns. They are quite simply the fastest air rifles available, and that's what you're paying for.

I'm really happy with my RWS and was glad to be at a place in my life where I could buy it without regret and appreciate it for what it is. That said; when my kids move up from the Red Ryder BB repeater into an honest air rifle, they'll be getting a Gamo.
