EoTech or Aimpoint

I'm trying to decide what optics to put on a recent acquisition.

Anyone use these?

PROs? / CONs?

They both seem to do the same thing, just in different ways.

I understand the battery life on the Aimpoint is measured in YEARs where the EoTech is measured in hours.
Is the sight picture that much better on the EoTech?


Aimpoint seems to be ~ $100 more than the E0Tech.

I'm leaning toward the Aimpoint as it would be one less thing to have to screw around with (fumbling for a power switch) when something goes "Bump" in the night.

I have used an Eotech and owned an Aimpoint. For me the Eotech was better than the Aimpoint for shooting. easier to get on target without a good cheek weld.

The Aimpoint felt to me to be more durable.

Things to think about before buying you already covered the battery thing. Also I know you can get a magnafier for the Eotech I don't know about the AP. This is a streach for me to even bring up but night vision compatable. (The last one doesn't matter at all to me.)

They are both good if a dot optic is what you are after I don't think you can make a bad choice.

There are some good videos on u-tube with guys showing the operation of their optics for referance. I was under the impression the the Eotech was more for MOUT training and room clearing, than long range targets. Haven't used one yet though.

I own an EOtech and have used the Aimpoint. For quick shooting at closer ranges, EOtech hands down, especially when bringing the weapon up to the shoulder in a hurry. As the ranges increase and the need for rapid deployment decreases, then the Aimpoint becomes more useful.

Sight picture for the EOtech is better in that even if the sight is rendered non-functional (unlikely event that the glass is broken out or simply the battery is dead) the "window" still allows you to shoot rather accurately at your intended target. While practicing "El Presidente", I am still able to put shots on target "shot gun style" (both eyes open, EOtech off, just putting the "window" over the target) on all 5 targets.

Haven't used the EOTech but the Aimpoint does have a magnifier that can be attached. I believe it is a 3X.

My AimPoint with a 2.5x Magnifier on Larue tactical QD mounts arrived last evening via FedEx and is now attached to an EBR
(that I may or may not have).

It's a good thing these things are TOUGH as FedEx crushed the crap outta the package, as usual.

The Eotech definitely has a bigger field of view.

The Aimpoint is more rugged and seems like the dot can be adjusted brighter.

The "Field of View" with the AimPoint is as wide as your peripheral vision when not using the magnifier as you shoot with both eyes open.

What made you go with the Aimpoint over the Eotech? I need one or the other for my SBR I'm building and had my mind made up on a 512 Eotech.

Two things really.
The more research I did, the more it seemed that the SF types used the AimPoint as it is less likely to get damaged and doesn't use a laser as the light source.

And I found a good deal on a used one.

Of couse the EBR they're attached to in the pictures was blown away in a hurricane right after these pictures were taken.......
and that is a REALLY REALLY big 5 round magazine........
