Help with a Teenager
Howdy all. I am a new stepdad of a 13 year old. He has been brought up around weapons and knows how to shoot (rather well, i might add). We've been shooting together before and he knows how to handle a firearm safely.
There are a couple of things that kind of stick out in my mind, at least the way I was raised. When I turned 12, I took a hunter safety course, and afterward I was forbidden by my father to point any kind of weapon at anyone....that went almost to dart guns, but not quite. What worries me about this is AirSoft and Paintball. They are designed to actually simulate shooting someone without really doing so. He's really big into each of them. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Am i just overreacting? We have talked about the difference between the two, but something in my gut just doesn't sit right. The other question I had was more toward education. One of his favorite subjects is history. Does anyone have any good literature about gun ownership? I'm looking for something geared toward rights and responsibilities to help me teach (and learn) as well as some history on the subject. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.... |

tough call.
My boys have been around firearms for as long as they can remember, but they aren't into airsoft or paintball. They have had airsoft pistols, but just plinking around at each other. I haven't had any problems with them misbehaving with real firearms. I would make sure they realize the differences and keep a closer eye on them.
