Hunting with pellet guns

Just curious to see how many of you guys hunt with a pellet gun. This has been something that has interested me for a while.

What is the preferred caliber for dispatching small game, .22 or .177?

I used my Crossman pump air rifle to hunt rabbit and squirrel when I was growing up, and I'd take the occasional grouse if it was sitting still. Now I use my RWS 48 mostly for cheap backyard practice and rodent control. I don't really think it matter much for smal game which caliber you use, as shot placement is what really matters. A head or neck shot with a .177 is better than a low-chest shot with a .22.

Man would I love to buy a nice pellet gun to take care of some of the pests in my back yard. I would probably buy a .177, but I don't know, I like anything in large calibers.

I love .177 But I could see times where .22 would be good.
A few guns come with interchangeable barrels.

One Rifle to rule them all! Shoot .177 and .22 cal. with this Beeman® Dual Caliber Air Rifle Combo.

Years ago a friend of mine had a side-cocking RWS in .177 that had unbelieveable power. If I remember correctly it could launch a standard weight pellet to 1200 FPS and penetrate six 3/4" pine boards.

It was a serious crow getter.

One thing to be careful of on the spring powered airguns is the recoil. The peak is so sharp that it can break scopes that are not designed for them.

The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
