Angry Baaaaa, BAAAAA!

First, I have to say that this seems to be an excellent post, certainly deserving of sticky status. It's obvious that a lot of effort was put into making it, and I certainly appreciate the info. That said, I have to make a comment that some here may not appreciate, but it couldn't possibly be appreciated any less than I appreciate this:

Quote:
you will need a rifle that is DEAD NUTS RELIABLE, and made to a degree of quality assurance that you can TRUST it with your life, and the lives of your fellow officers, not to mention the sheep...err, I mean people, under your watch. (emphasis added)

Oh crap! Almost forgot to mention those stupid sheep! Now, I know that in theory you don't think of everyone who's not LE as sheep, but this sentiment literally makes my stomach turn. It makes me sick to think that I might be paying someone to have this sort of outlook about me. I know it's hard to think of some anonymous everyman as being as important as your co-worker, but the mentality that it's any worse for an innocent cop to die than for an innocent non-cop to die is something you should work very hard to do away with. It is morally repugnant.

I would like to add that I feel very irritated when people display a cavalier attitude toward gun safety and responsibility. I would classify my irritation with the attitude expressed in the comment as exactly the same.

Alan I believe it was borrowed from a cop specific web page. Just cop language to other cops, not meant to be personal. It goes on in every field. Military does it to indigants, as well as each other for example. I don't think a "grunt" likes being called a "crunchy" by a "CDAT". I'm sure firemen have their names for us too.

I'll second that is shop talk language and not exclusive to law enforcement.

Pick up the book On Combat, by Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. A section of it is titled On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs. You can view much of his work at www.killology.com.

If that quote makes you bristle I would recommend you not go into law enforcement, some of the things you get called or compared to are just not very nice at all!
