Remington differences

Sitting here thinking, dreaming, considering...
I know I want a short action bolt action rifle (I have a long action 7mm Rem Mag in Savage)
Im thinking .308, but thats not the question at the moment.
Remington Model 700 and Remington Model 770. Whats the differences? the only thing I have found so far is the 770 bolt locks into the barrel instead of the receiver. What else is different?

I handled the 770 and was not impressed, it felt like junk compared to a 700. I think it is Remington's answer to the Savage but I think the Savage is a better gun than the 770. For a basic hunting rifle it will probably do fine, if need something for varmint, target, or tactical the 700 would be the way to go.

For varmint I like my 700 VS in 223 out to 400 yards, beyond that I think the 22-250 is a better choice. However, windy days are tough with the 22 calibers.

For long range I have a LR-308 but am thinking about building a 260 Remington upper for it.

308 and 260 are much better on a windy day than the 22 calibers. I have been playing with a friends old Sako in 25-06 and that has me thinking....

I have an AR for the .223 job.
I have a Savage 7mm Rem Mag.
Im also considering a 6.5 or 6.8 upper for my AR.

I'd save up the money and get the 700. I think the 770 is a cost cutter attempt for modern times.

I have a m700 sendero in 25-06 that I think is the ultimate yote and antelope medicine. I have another 25-06 (m700 BDL-better portability) for deer. Absolutely love the caliber.

For smaller varmints, I use an m700 vssf in .220 swift. Tack driver with ragged one hole groups at 250-300 yards.

thanks to the spammer for the bump.

with my recent introduction to the .204 Ruger, I have started thinking.
the .204 uses the .222 Remington as the parent case.
the .223 uses the .222 Remington as the parent case.

gee, that would fit the mag well of my AR.
