Texas considering open carry.....???
I saw headlines on a newspaper somewhere in central Texas today that said that there is legislation being considered to make Texas "open carry". I was trying to get home so I didn't take time to read or buy the paper. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Plenty of links on this page to new stories about it.
http://www.opencarry.com But there is one thing I'm not clear on. Are they looking that you still would have to have a license to open carry, or can anyone do it as long as they can legally own the handgun? Based on what I've read, it appears that anyone could open carry, but you would still need a license to carry concealed. Trying to wrap my mind around that one...it doesn't make sense to me. |

I hope Texas citizens get the open carry restriction removed.
In Utah, we have the right to open carry without a permit but there are some restrictions. These include no open carrying within a certain distance of schools. If you have a concealed permit then you can open carry anywhere you can carry concealed which is allowed at schools. |

The biggest thing I like about open carry is that if you are carrying concealed, you don't have to worry about accidentally printing or showing your rig.

I think open carry should be a given.
That being said, Ill stay concealed. No sense moving up the list on who gets shot at first.

I'm hoping that Texas does pass the open carry legislation. I'm looking at retirement in about 10 or so years and I'm seriously considering looking at some property in central or east central Texas. Nevada is fine for now but Texas has a much lower cost of living index. Not to mention that I like the independence that Texas exhibits especially when it comes to federal government intervention of their state operation.

We're open, most just don't recognise it. Just need to be real careful until the decision to make the local ordinances unconstitutional. Also illegal to transport unlocked (in a case) and loaded UNLESS YOU HAVE A ccw.

In OR you can open carry in certain parts of the state. Portland does not allow open carry - not sure where elce does not allow. I, however, love suprises especially for the criminal element.
