We need to heed the warnings from the citizens of England and Australia.

Washington DC banned private possession of handguns by its citizens and severely restricted long guns in 1976.

You could have a shotgun to protect your home, but it had to be disassembled or locked and the ammunition had to be kept locked up in a separate part of the home.
Criminals in DC were not that accommodating as to announce their intentions 10 to 15 minutes in advance to give you time to reassemble your firearm, find the ammo, load the firearm and prepare to repel borders.

Crime in DC escalated until DC was Number 1 or 2 in the country in Firearm Related Homicide Deaths for nearly each of the past 32 years.

Gun Control works.
It keeps firearms out of the hands of law abiding citizens.

Criminals......notsomuch.

Of course you`re right, the statistics have proven your point time after time. The problem lies in convincing people like Pelosi, Shumer, Kennedy and the Clintons (and probably Obama) of this reality. John lott said it best with the title of one of his books, "More Guns, Less Crime"
