Tragic

Have to wonder how many more gun show shootings and accidents will occur before they try to legislate our "safety".

WESTFIELD, Mass. — An 8-year-old boy died after accidentally shooting himself in the head while firing an Uzi submachine gun under adult supervision at a gun fair.

Well, as tragic as it is.... I am quite sure that there were several laws broken by this- The instructor would need to know that an 8 yr old boy is not capable to hold a weapon like that at continuous fire.
So the standard reaction of the lawmakers (a law has been broken with tragic consequence, so let's make some more laws) may go into effect... but doing nothing for the boy, and nothing to really increase the safety...

Just my 2c

Like I stated on the other site, this happened in the bordering city where I am from. It is begining to blow wide open, this will no doubt have a negative impact on our 2nd amendment rights. It was an enourmously stupid and tragic thing. The boys father is an ER doctor at one of the local hospitals.

This sucks all the way around,

Tim

The real tragedy is that someone more deserving didn't get that Darwin award... who in their right mind turns an 8-year old loose with a bullet-hose?

I'm a big fan of teaching the kids how to shoot safely & proficiently, but I've always stood directly behind them with "hands on" the first time they fire a new-to-them weapon... because they occasionally do something dumb in spite of your best efforts.

Geez, a micro-Uzi to boot? No wonder it turned over so easy...

Just an update fella's. A police chief whom sponsored this event, and also provided the weapon that tragically killed the young boy is being charged and has been suspended without pay. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney. The club that hosted the event is also being charged.

Very sad.

I am sure they all thought it was pretty cool when the little boy wanted to try the gun and didn't think of what could happen. It was a dumb mistake and now the parents, the club, and maybe gun owners will be paying for it.

Our local range will rent full-auto guns but you have to be at least 18 to shoot them no matter who rents the gun.

It makes me sick to my stomach.
for..

... This child losing his life
.... others for losing a friend, son, grandson, nephew etc..
The adult that wasnt in control of the situation
and every gun owner out there that will have fight another battle to try
to keep from being " protected " as if it isnt bad enough all ready.

the fact that this "EVENT" was run by "law enforcement personnel" ...
you would think ... if someone had just rested their hand on top of the weapon this would have NEVER happened

after thought being what it is !

sad

The problem with America is stupidity. I’m not saying there should be capital punishment for stupidity, but why don’t we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
